the very end is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=H6Pza3eyb1s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here:<\/a> &#8230; the rehearsal is a bit funnier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eFEl-Q1Q06U\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>).<\/sub><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"http:\/\/phil-c.com\/wphi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Malher2-Chorale.mp3\"><\/audio><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Mahler 2 last movement &#8211; trombone chorale, KSO Barbican performance<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230; every Mahler symphony, every Bruckner symphony, every Tchaik, Sibelius, Brahms, Dvorak, Schumann, Walton \u2026 well, pretty much all mainstream symphonies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"background-color:#3b1414\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>When this crescendo to an octave jump (18s) works out, it makes all the waiting, all the sitting in rehearsals, all the traveling, money, beer and time &#8230; every Shostakovich symphony &#8211; with London Shostakovich Orchestra (including the batshit 2nd with its huge recitative, and the astonishing 4th symphony, which I&#8217;ve performed four times so far&#8230;)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"background-color:#3b1414\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>Shostakovich 4th symphony has a strange<\/em> <em>trombone solo in the last movement<\/em> (KSO, St John&#8217;s, Smith Square)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/phil-c.com\/wphi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Shos4-solo.mp3\"><\/audio><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Solo from Shostoakovich 4 (KSO)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>KSO highlights have got to be Mahler 2 in Barbican Hall, Mahler 3 in Fairfield Halls, Mahler 9 in St John&#8217;s, Smith Square, Peter Grimes in QEH. TBH almost every KSO concert is a wonderful experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have yet to perform a concerto, but did include Leopold Mozart concerto in a recital at St Olave&#8217;s church, celebrating my victory in &#8220;Office Musician of the Year&#8221; in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/phil-c.com\/wphi\/orchestral-trombone-playing\/kso-orchestral-repertoire\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"48\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Full list of works<\/a> I&#8217;ve played just with KSO<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other orchestras and ensembles are far too many to list, but notable are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Corinthian Orchestra &#8211; I&#8217;ve played principal and second (with the excellent Mr Carnac) in several of this stunning band&#8217;s performances in Queen Elizabeth Hall: Mahler 10, Stravinsky Firebird, Bartok and Luto Concertos for Orchestra, &#8230;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Orchestra of St Paul<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cambridge Phil <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"44\" height=\"44\" class=\"wp-image-47\" style=\"width: 44px;\" src=\"http:\/\/phil-c.com\/wphi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/lmao.webp\" alt=\"\"><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>City Of Cambridge Symphony Orchestra<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230; and, over the years, most of the non-professional orchestras in London, Oxford and Cambridge<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I played Mahler 3 with KSO in Fairfield Halls (May 2023)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I played the big alto trombone solo in Thomas&#8217;s Hamlet in the QEH<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I&#8217;ve played the horrendous Berg 3 Orchestral pieces that starts on pianissimo high Eb &#8211; and the scary arpeggio in Daphnis complete ballet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I can&#8217;t count how many times I&#8217;ve played Mozart Requiem and Mass in C Minor &#8211; usually on alto trombone: Music that brings out the <em><strong>beauty <\/strong><\/em>of the three trombones. <strong>Some of these are among the happiest times of my life<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turangalila twice, Sacre a good half dozen times \u2026 Symphony of Psalms, Agon (which has a violin and trombone duet!).
